Two Canadian restaurants were named the world's best Italian restaurants.

The world's top Italian restaurants are two Canadian restaurants from the annual list of the best Italian restaurants abroad, selected by Italian food and wine publishing group Gambero Rosso.

The awards include the "Special Award" category, as well as Tre Porsche (Best Restaurant), Tre Speech (Best Pizza Shop) and Trebotigli (Best Wine Seller). Among the world's top Italian restaurants, the best restaurants selected by two restaurants in Canada are Chiofino in Vancouver and Don Alfonso in Toronto.

It's not surprising that the two restaurants won that honor, as they were previously named the world's best restaurant (and often cheered by countless celebrities), and Don Alfonso's restaurant was actually ranked the world's best by the prestigious Italian rankings in the past. What stands out in the special prize category is the chef of Vancouver's Pinot Forsterra, who won the Guardian of Tradition award. While other Canadian locations failed to make the cut for the best restaurants overall, Montreal's Graziella was included in the Trebotigli category, which selects the best wine cellars in the world.
