Canada's Food Expenditure Continues to Increase
Canadians are still spending a lot of money on food because of inflation.
Statistics Canada explained in its November Consumer Price Index report that food prices have been rising year by year, and that prices for many items have soared significantly since October. It rose 11% in October, followed by 11.4% in November compared to the same month last year. The upward trend has continued since December last year.
The price of fresh fruit has gone up by 11%. Poultry prices also jumped more than 9% from last year, as global supply declined as a result of the persistent bird flu. Edible fats and oils continue to weigh heavily on ordinary people, increasing 26 percent, as do coffee, tea, eggs, and cereal products.
Canada's Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 6.8% year-on-year in November, following a 6.9% increase in October.
